Shop for Art Supplies
Here’s a list of art supplies (paint brushes, canvas, water colors, and more) I use and highly recommend for painting. If you need to shop for art supplies, read on.
Best Paint brushes
If you are just starting out with painting and feel overwhelmed by so many art paint brushes, here is a set of 7 paint brushes by handmade modern.
Best Water Color Paints and Water Color brushes
Winsor and Newton has a gorgeous, portable and affordable set of water color paints (aka water colour paints) that I love. Best of all it’s $12 and these paints will last you a long time!
The water color kit above comes with a mini brush that I use. I also use my other brushes (linked above) for the water color paints.
Here’s a water color painting I did using the kit:
Best Water Color Paper
Painting with water colors requires special paper so that the water you wet the paint with doesn’t soak through. I use Canson Mixed Media paper. The paper is heavy enough for water colors and you can also use acrylic paints or pen or pencil on it.
Best Acrylic Paints
I use Liquitex Basics Acrylic paints. You really only need white plus the three primary colors, which are red, blue and yellow.
Grab a set of red, blue, yellow, white and black for under $20 here. From those colors, you can create all the other colors.

If you want to get fancy, you can order a set of all the acrylic paint colors here.
Blank Canvas or Stretched Canvas
It’s tempting to shop for canvas at Michael’s or another craft store. But if you want to save serious money and still get high quality painting canvas, shop online. Here’s what I use:
Daveliou Stretched Canvas is $19.55 for a pack of five (size 11×14 inches) Blank Canvases for Painting. They are triple primed art Canvases that are perfect for kids, adults, students and professionals.
Here’s some owl wall art I painted with the canvas I mentioned above:
So there you have it. The best art supplies, on a budget.
