Three Original Songs by The Loverfaces, Asheville Indie Music Duo

In The Garden by The Loverfaces

I (Sarah) wrote this song:

  • to write a song in the style of Chad and…
  • because I started gardening during quarantine…I felt like it was the one thing I felt like nobody could control, destroy or steal from me. Because prior to quarantine, I had a thriving pet sitting business and I miss my dog friends like crazy. Prior to quarantine, I had a thriving corporate entertainment business as an artist. Although I don’t miss that one as much ;), I wrote this song because nobody can take my garden away.

Fly with Me

Chad wrote Fly with Me (with help from me). We had spent the day at the playground jumping off swings. Then we watched The Neverending Story. And Fly with Me was born!
About Secret Ghost aka Beetlejuice

One day Chad walked into our room and I was standing there naked in the dark about to get dressed. Chad literally screamed! He later told me that he thought I was a ghost. We had recently watched Beetlejuice so I was inspired to write a song about it.

The Loverfaces are an Asheville indie music duo made up of married couple Sarah Jordan and Chad Jordan.  Get new songs by email, it’s free and FUN.

About the Music

I’ve never had a formal vocal lesson (except for Chad correcting me and showing me harmonies)…but I feel like have to create it or I will literally die.

“When everything works best, it’s not because you chose writing (or music), it’s because it CHOSE YOU. It’s when you’re mad with it. It’s when it’s stuffed in your ears, nostrils, under your fingernails. It’s when there’s no hope but that.” Charles Bukowski

My take on this: Projectile Poetry by Sarah Jordan

When I play my ukulele,

my fingers ACHE to pluck and caress

the strings.

My ears are RAVENOUS

for succulent melodies and my throat

throbs with the weight of my words

that desperately need to escape

from the confining cages of my physical heart and lungs.

When the press the pencil to the page

my hand cannot keep up with

my brain’s wild words, lyrics or ideas.

When I’m with you,

I’m so incredibly fully with you

OTHERWISE WHY BOTHER!?

My ears drink

your words like nectar.

My eyes are liquid pools

reflecting you, your image, ALL OF YOU

back to you like molten moonlight

and I wouldn’t fudging dare to put

a screen between us (except to suspend time forever at the click of a camera button)

so that you can’t help but

fully feel my presence too.”- Sarah Jordan

Inspiration

Charles Bukowski (although dead) continues to inspire me because he sat on the floor writing on a damn napkin because it was what he LIVED for, and he would have died for it!!

“We work too hard. We try too hard,” Bukowski wrote to Packard.

“Don’t try. Don’t work. It’s there. Looking right at us, aching to kick out of the closed womb.”

What he might have meant by this: “if the thought of living without it (your THING) hurts more than the thought of potentially suffering through the process, if the thought of a life without it or never having tried it at all terrifies you, if it comes to you, through you, out of you, almost as if you’re not trying, then go all the fudging way.'”

That quote comes from Bukowski’s novel Factotum — the story of Bukowski in search of blue-collar work that won’t get in the way of his one true craft (writing).

In the Water by Joy Downer Covered by Sarah Jordan on Ukulele

In the Water by Joy Downer was the first song I learned to play strictly by ear!

My husband Chad confirmed I played it correctly before I posted the video. We are an Asheville indie band called The Loverfaces.

In the Water is the Theme Song to Spinning Out on Netflix. The show is sooooo incredibly GOOD + ADDICTIVE and I wish there was a second season.

Here’s what people are saying about my In the Water Ukulele cover:
